Last week I bought a transistor BC for putting it into use in my common emitter class A audio amplifier. The BC transistor costed Rs. Yesterday I bought a 2N bc170 that costed only Rs. Now my question is, what is the difference between the two, that their cost varies this much.

Datasehet minimum switching frequency supported by the 2N is about double that of the BC Unless you are running at very high speeds, the two BJTs should be interchangeable. As far as costs go, the 2N is a very popular transistor, manufactured in many millions per year. The BC is much less common. So you got a really good deal on the BCs at Rs.
The prices of the surface-mount version of the 2N at Digi-key are about the same as the bc07, and they haveof those ready to ship.
