I was thinking of supplementing with Zops of Fred, because it also has those tie-ins with Physics, Economics, Biology, which might pique his interest in those subjects. My son aspires to be an engineer in the future, and he picks up math concepts easily, so we actually are going through Singapore 5 quickly.
I was having my son work through aps book on his own, but some of the problems are quite difficult. We challenge each other.

We tend to go broad and deep with our subjects and use a schedule that makes every day different. Because of that, I am currently doing math with both of my boys at once. It has you solving problems before teaching you how to do it.
It was all rather boring, but this course makes each problem like a puzzle. As eclectic homeschoolers we mix and match many different methods of homeschooling to give us a unique mix that works for us.

I was trying to look at scopes and sequences, but it gets all jumbled in my head after looking at different ones too long! While not designed for homeschool, AOPS solution manuals and lengthy explanations in the textbook provide the alegbra we need to complete the class.
Usually it shows you how to do the problem more efficiently. It is not a flashy looking book at all, but it is packed full of juicy problems. This year I am homeschooling a 10th grader, 8th grader, and 4th grader. The AOPS website also has short instructional videos for most sections in the book. The wordiness is a good fit for my auditory-sequential learner while the puzzling out the problems approach should be a good fit for my visual-spatial learner. The whole process of puzzling out the problems is designed to help you really understand what you are doing.
We typically spend about an hour each school day on math and just do what gets done in that time. It is also quite wordy.
